In-kind donations:
Gift cards. For coffee shops, restaurants, and gas. Mentors are encouraged to meet with their 'mentees' weekly; first at the prison and then once released, at inexpensive or free public places. The average commute to Lansing Correctional facility is between 20-40 miles, one way. Once released, depending on the location of the mentor and the mentee, transportation needs, and schedules this can limit where they are able to meet and not surprisingly the cost of these weekly meetings can add up. N2LIFE Project would like to relieve some of the burden of the mentor with these type of gifts to be used with the client. For as little as $10 you can purchase a Starbuck's, Latteland, Burger King, or a Quiktrip Gift Prepaid Card (Must be purchased at a store, unless a corporation is purchasing in bulk).
Pay-As-You-Go phones. Have you noticed that public phones are seemingly non-existent? Long gone are the days of pay phones. Many times our clients will not have a physical address and may release to a shelter or other temporary living situation and are often mandated to be out of the facility during the daytime hours (looking for work). This can make it very difficult for them to be reached by their mentor, parole officer, and potential employer. Having a phone can help them access and stay on top of information more readily, keep a calendar of appointments, and be reached in a timely manner for job interviews and other interactions. For approximately $11.99 you can purchase a phone or for $20 a refill card and empower an individual to communicate and become self sufficient.
We are also looking for souls willing to host a dessert meeting at their house, or a place of their choosing; and invite individuals in your life to find out about the problem of re-entry and what we are doing about it. This a casual, fun, and personal way to share our vision and heart about N2LIFE and extend connections. If interested or you would like to know more about this, email us at n2lifeproject@gmail.com.

N2LIFE Project hopes to operate having 3 months of our budget in reserve at all times. We have been networking within government, ministry, and non-profit organizations that work with our population to identify the gaps. Through the networking and research we have found that the mentor training and support component is a significant, yet missing piece in our community. A correlation has been found between this lack of services and high burnout rate among mentors. Evidence shows there is a high need for relational consistency for the clients, and it reveals a need for training and support for the mentors over a pronounced duration of time to accomplish this. The worst thing we could do for both the client and mentor is begin a program that we cannot be available to sustain. We understand that not everyone is able to commit to being mentors but you can support those who are able to volunteer in this way.
Grocery gift cards. (Aldi, HyVee; Price Chopper, Constantino's Downtown Market, Sunfresh - if no link need to purchased in-store.) Again, many of our clients leave the prison with little or no money.
Healthy Fun. Tickets to sporting events, concerts, movies, game place for mentors and/or clients to attend. Reentering into society can be a stressful event. Mentoring takes a lot of an individuals time and energy. Many of our clients may not know how to have or cannot afford healthy fun. We want to honor their hard work and encourage social activities as a way to bond and relax. (Dave & Buster's, AMC theaters, Cinemark theater, Royals, Chiefs can be purchased at ticket office or HyVee.)
Bus passes. Many times upon release the clients will not have a means of transportation readily at their disposal. This can make life difficult when applying or interviewing for jobs, making it to parole visits, and obtaining additional resources they may need. If they are releasing to areas with busing options, N2LIFE Project would like assist in this way for a period of time. Approximately $50 will purchase a bus pass for a month on the KCATA, a 3 day Visitor pass (non-date specific) are $10, or $78 for a monthly pass for The JO.
